Doesn't sound very predictable. Certainly not predictable enough to say we are overdue.

"Magnetic north heads south, and -- over about 1,000 years -- the field does a complete flip-flop."

Although there was a single study which showed 6 degrees per day for a short period, 1,000 years is long enough, I think I can adapt.
