'Nexia' a Canadian Co: have been producing some 90yards of 'Silk BioSteel' an hour, from the milk of just 6 goats.
Nexia is now working with US Army scientists to develop protective clothing which can be four times stronger than Kelvar for use in bullet proof vests, weighing little more than a cotton vest.
"We have never been able to produce artificial silk in the laboratory. Mother nature spent 400million years perfecting this process.....she
knows a lot more than we do". A company official stated.
METHOD.
A silk producing Gene is extracted from the Golden Orb weaver spider, and inserted into a fertilised goats egg, and then re-implanted into a host mother.
Goats are born as normal but have 1/70,000 spider in their genes. The milk they produce contains silk proteins, that are then removed, condensed, treated and spun into real silk.

The company is presently researching to produce plants that grow real leather leaves (green) that can be used in the shoe industry, and also cooked and eaten as a meat substitute.

***wonder what Vegetarians will have to say?
