If we could liken it to the largest living creature on Earth today, it probably eats plankton like the great blue whale. Also, the megamouth shark eats plankton. It could be chowing down on the bacteria that inhabit the deep sea vents, also, or some small creatures that serve as primary predators in that ecosystem.

Maybe this could account for some of the legendary "voice of the sea" that calls the young sailors.... Maybe it's a little guy sitting at the bottom of the ocean chewing gum and blowing the occasional bubble. :-)
