I agree with your assertions regarding rush.
Fact is, most everything that generates or traps heat will result in an increase. Solar forcing is but one component. Sun-spot activity correlation to temperature changes is IIRC somthing on the order of .70 while CO2 correlation is something on the order of .50. Together, the correlation is around .90 observed. How they arrive at .90 I have no idea so you'll have to draw your own conclusions. I can supply some links but not any i find particularly apolitical.
