You know, not to be fanning the flames or anything, but at one time I lived on the Gulf coast. The town I lived in was 40 miles inland, but only ten feet above sea level. That works out to about 4 miles across land for every foot rise in sea level, or a ratio of 1760:1. Roughly a mile for every three inches. This means that (a) the land is very flat, and (b) a small vertical change can result in an enormous horizontal change.
