That's gonna be quite a trick. According to the somewhat outdated data at CIA world factbook, china has [only!] 135 million phones in use (public and private).

Still, if the survey was accurate, even if the conclusion is overly optimistic, that's still quite a jump from where they were in january 2001. At that time, they put internet users at 22 million. If it is now 56 million then the number more than doubled in a little over one year. That's pretty impressive but it raises a lot of questions as to how they were able to keep up with demand - hardware wise. I'm think of a ultra slow version of AOL (that was of course cynical as nothing is as slow as AOL ;-) )
