Reading your excellent analysis, devoid maybe of the usual emotion attacted to such subjects, makes me think the machine will grind on. We can't artifically make groups of people live independently, it's more a happening than can be designed. But I think people have an instinct for these things and don't solve them logically, and I wonder if a lot of empires in the past fell from within because of similar instincts. I'm talking about when a system become so unwieldly and expressionless, so bland, do people start acting more reckless, something like that.
