I'd hate to force anyone to believe in evolution, but any other theories I'm heard require no more research. That's how religion has often hindered scientists. "We know the answer already, don't tell us anything, its all in the bible." The theory of evolution isn't a brainwashing sort of science, it is painfull accepted as being as near an understanding of life as we have. But would agree that the teaching of theories to children could be rightly considered brainwashing by people who don't accept it. It's the way of world I suppose.
