yes...let's base our arguments on an "appeal to authority"
modern analogue...consult the holy science journals (whose opinions and theories change yearly, weekly, or with a good wind :-)
he beseeched them to unbend in a manner coarse and unheard-of and to look in the open mouth of a horse and find answer to their questionings
ignore the observable evidence...rely on that which has been written and surmised by fallible, subjectively objective, and imperfect men...without the benefit of divine inspiration
some things don't change...an argument for the narrow application of uniformitarianism :-)
