Safety Net for Vaulting

It has been brought to my attention today that there have been several persons killed vaulting. I would like to submit an idea for greater safety. What would be wrong with a net set up to stop the person from falling all the way to the floor? I feel that a net similar to a circus net suspended far enough from the floor to prevent the vaulter from hitting the floor could save the vaulter from injury without hindering the vault. If this is not satisfactory, what about a larger mat with more soft padding?
