I assume the moon wouldn't change is velocity since its being travelling that way for millions of years, (what would change it). Gravity in this instance only accounts for the pull of the moon toward earth, the velocity is its own or else the pull makes no sense. The velocity has always being independent of the pull, the moon is trying to escape in a straight line, if gravity slowed it down it would not work, and therefore the velocity would not be expected to change.
