Everything said about the differences in length for each observer is of course true and I understand that. But it seems also true in the exact same way as regards the time differences. So I still don't understand why the time difference is permanent and the shrinkage is not. But now looking for some other way around it. If atoms keep time, then it could be possible to show if any change at all took place in the rock. Thanks for the effort, maybe I need to take another look at the book.
