One major difference in science is that the "faith" produces results that are independently verifiable by anyone, not just initiates in the "religion" that makes the statement. Any body in the world can use math to determine, for example, how a stone which is thrown into the air will move. You don't have to be a member of the scientific community to test the law of gravity.
