I read similar stories, actually.
Not only that, I've seen (and have) pictures of incredibly large squid that washed up on shore and were shown to be juvinile. I also saw a very short clip of an autopsy being done on a larger than normal juvi squid.

It always struck me as odd that we have never found an adult, but I suppose there're many reasons why that could be.

I was already quite convinced of the existence of the giant squid, I posted this one here because, simply put, it was a weird-looking variation.
