Robert McDuffie, internationally known violin virtuoso, plays a lot of Viennese favorites in this album, accompanied by Erich Kunzel and the Cincinnati Pops Orchestra. The album includes Lehar, Kreisler (my favorite) and also Johann Strauss, Jr. and Rudolf Sieczynski. McDuffie's violin isn't identified in the liner notes, but it has a huge, warm, sweet and romantic sound that one could easily mistake for the violin of Perlman, with whom McDuffie has studied. McDuffie's bowing is superb, just like Perlman's, and his overall gestalt is perfect for this schmaltzy selection of crowd pleasers. The album is simply wonderful for violin lovers, and even their pets. My two dogs stopped chasing each other and sat on the sofa, rapt, while they listened for over an hour to this music. I have no idea what this music means to my dogs, but they surely loved it as much as I did. For those of us who have studied violin, McDuffie's playing represents a pinnacle of expertise well beyond our capabilities. It's simply awesome.Read full review
