I ordered a cross section involving three Toms, all 11 inches, all 440 steel, with all being touted as battle/throwing or survival type. All three arrived pretty quickly. I guess the luck of the draw had me open this one first I loved it right off!!! This Tom is a little more traditional with a sharp head but as with all of them made from a single block of 440 steel. Now, for the price of $8.50-10.50 via auction they are all decent, Toms, but varied head types from survival cut outs, a more blade type and this nearly traditional. This one had the most heft for their size, the best rigidity and an awesome wood grip that was just the right size for my hand. It also has bolt head cut outs, a finger guide inlet on the front of the handle, dull serrations to add grip for your thumb or other hand on the back of the handle just below the head for press chopping. It also has a lanyard attachment hole on the end of the handle AND the MUST HAVE BOTTLE OPENER HOOK shaping out the back of the head. To be honest, I have not thrown any of them yet. I am mainly judging their all around use for hiking/camping and being part of my travel kit on my ADV motorcycle. This Tom is the best of the three for up to medium wood chopping (its only an 11 incher!) and is perfect for a lightweight camp tool. Again, they all have their forte (one is more of a survival tool and the other a great sharp thin profile cutting/skinning blade) but I am a fan of this one and it has since become a major part of my kit. I have a regular hatchet for around the camp more heavy duty jobs BUT this one will do the job with just a little more work required but is easily carried and ready for a variety of uses. I think you will be as happy with it as I am.Read full review

Being a single-piece all metal axe, made of decent stainless steel, it looks good on paper. Well... PROS: *nice, useful, encapsulated plastic sheath with a button snap *Single-piece SS, looks like a milled cast piece CONS: *arrived as dull as a dropout *blade edge was milled/sharpened at a wide angle - halfway to a thin hammer, really *if used for throwing, the handle is too short for natural rotation given the weight distribution *rubber handle extends past the single-piece frame... and so it splits in half upon first impact when one doesn't throw from the proper distance, which you will, given it's short handle length It's not a decent throwing axe... even for $10.50. Time to wrap the handle with gaff tape and do some serious work on the grinder and stones!
