I checked the readings against other watt meters and against power using devices with known wattages, and found the readings to be very accurate - possibly within 1 per cent. The meter gives real wattages and not just volt amperes in that it accurately corrects for inductive loads with low power factors. I tested loads with power factors between 0.35 and 1.0, and it gave consistently accurate results. Although the meter does not display the volt-ampere and power factor reading, you can easily get it by multiplying the volts by amps, and then dividing watts by volt-amperes to get power factor. I was at first skeptical about how accurate the clamp-on current transformer coil would be compared to regular current coils, but found it to be just as accurate, and much more convenient in that you do not have to disconnect and reconnect circuit breaker wires in distribution boxes to get the current transformer coil on it. Depending on your application and testing usage, it may be useful to solder on additional wire lengths and test clips for easier connections.Read full review

I really don't like the CT's (current transformers) are not the "split type" so the system has to be de-energized, and wiring disconnected in order to install the CT's to sample current flow. It's because of this that I do not think these are a good value. For instance, there is a major problem if you want to measure the total entrance current to a dwelling. It would require lifting the incoming electrical supply and you would need to remove the electric company,s meter which get you in trouble. Split CT's are the only way to go in any case and they are much easier to t=replace if they become defective. JK

I have these installed on a few different projects and I love them. They are surprisingly accurate. I compared them to a kill-a-watt and the readings were within one watt of each other. The KWH feature is nice for tracking consumption and it has a blue backlight that can be disabled. This one has a nice design so that you don't have to disconnect any wires to install it. Very handy product!

Works well if you want to track your power consumption separately from your company meter. Takes a little ingenuity if your main panel needs the cutout. If you're halfway skilled at using a dremel cut off wheel it's easy to do. I don't think it's as accurate as say a $300 fluke but it's not that inaccurate. It's good enough to find a discrepancy and warrant the use of a NIST certified device, which is needed for court cases. This little guy is even smart enough to measure power factor and distinguish between true resistive loads and loads with power factors. It doesn't flat out display the power factor but it is evident in the power measured at device, if you do the math.

My only complaint would be that the tabs on the back of the screen are light and easy to break off while trying to fit in a metal enclosure. Other than that the screen is clear and very easy to read. Not overly bright but visible from any angle with bright florescent lighting all around. Quality is great, bought 22 of them and not a problem with a single unit.
