I have a 175w metal halide and it is at least twice as bright as this 35w led unit. Many manufacturers and resellers of LED lighting throw around outrageously high numbers for the HID equivalency of their products. It's annoying and disingenuous that they do this to make the LEDs look much better than they really are. LEDs are truly only about double as efficient as Quartz metal halide and only about 1.5-1.75 times more efficient than CMH. LED technology is superior to metal halide, just not as vastly so as many claim. Therefore most times you can double the LED wattage and that's about the metal halide wattage it will replace. So in this case this unit will replace a 70w maybe 100w MH. This is why it's 4 stars instead of 5. Soap box and pet peeves aside, this is a very nice unit that is well made. It puts out a very healthy amount of light for a measured 33-34.5w. The refractor does a good job spreading out the light to help tone down the point-source glare from the individual LEDs. The quality of light is very good, it's a nicely balanced white that hits 5000k on the mark or really close. This unit is also sealed up really well, everything has a gasket to help keep water and bugs out which is a nice touch. The hardware kit is fairly complete too. I took it completely apart and looked at the internals, not much to pick at about this unit especially considering the price. Regardless, here are some things that need work to take it that last 5%: - The photocell doesn't have much of a delay to it so the unit can have a fast on/off cycling under certain conditions - there was several large pieces of casting flash around the cooling fins -the area that the heatsink contacts on the main body to transfer heat to it is painted and rough instead of smooth and bare metal to transfer heat well -there was not much heatsink compound used either Some personal preferences: - the box suggested that there are 3000 & 4000k units available. I would have rather had a warm white unit than this one. Warm white is just classier to me. However I could not find anything other than 5000k. - another thing would be to have a yellow or low pressure sodium colored unit available. It's less disruptive to wildlife, doesn't attract as many bugs, easier to see through fog or snow, and the glare is less harsh to look at. Anyway, you can do far worse in my opinion than this light. It does exactly what it should. I like it.Read full review

Light was difficult to install, no room to work with wires, Also did not produce enough light compared with my old one. Light was concentrated directly below light. Could have been better dispersed, but it wasn't bright enough anyway.

I just installed this light and tested it out. Works at least as well as the fluorescent that it replaced, and, uses less watts to put out more light. Light is also a tighter controlled spectrum, and thus, is more usable. I will continue the test and comment on the longevity of this fixture, as it is installed in the lightning capitol of the world, north Florida, USA.

We replaced an old light with this Led light. Light weight simple to put up. Brighter & shines on a larger area than old 175W light. Uses less electricity. Can not say enough good things about this light. Will buy another when we replace the other light.
