You will find this radio an excellent addition to your stable of listening devices. It's very much like a radio from the 1960s or 70s - but with modern internals. There are only three contols: tuning, volume, and on/off/band select switch. The styling is completely retro - but it works. This radio has really excellent sound and very good sensitivity / selectivity. Its a very nice radio to listen to; if you're into talk radio - which means you'll be on the AM band - it's great. Tuning is very precise, the log scale is helpful. The radio runs on two D-Cell batteries, which means it can run for many many hours before you will ever have to consider changing them. The radio is capable of putting out a lot of sound without distortion - so quite good for locations outside or with noise. It's a nice size, not too big, and not too small. Because it lacks digital tuning, i.e. - it has no micro-processor on-board, the radio generates NO INTERNAL NOISE, which makes it excellent for listening to weak far away stations, especially at night. This ability to "AM Dx" makes it a keeper for any arm chair traveler. For it's low cost and outstanding performance, you simply can't beat picking up one of these and giving it a try... I bet you are delighted.Read full review

They want to know how I like it, I like it so much I gave it away to Salvation Army. If it's not a strong local station it takes full power to barely hear it. And don't expect much other than local stations, which do sound good though. This thing is very outdated as far as radios go, and with cheesy build quality. Not what you would expect from Sony.

Works just fine on two "D" batteries. Wish there was an adapter to run on household currency. The batteries are 3 volts so I have rigged up a low voltage adapter. Spund is very good and it is easy to change channels. Think that it will last for many enjoyable years.

I work on generators and this little radio goes with me everywhere. I toss it in a bucket with other tools and off we go. This is the second one I've purchased. The first is a couple years old and going strong. It gets rained on, snowed on, exposed to negative temps, dropped, etc.... Still works great, batteries last forever and sound is good for the size.

I had reasonable expectations since it was a SONY... I was not disappointed. I live in FL and frequently loose power when we have those frequent storms. I purchased this for those times. I checked it out when I received it and it worked just fine. Sound quality was good and picked up enough stations (both AM/FM) to keep me company. It does require D cell batteries and I am not sure how long this radio will work before the batteries die but I will make sure to have enough batteries to last. For the money, it was well worth the investment for those unexpected emergencies. The shipping from this company was also excellent!
