These are excellent quality pencil sharpeners. They make a long and solid point that's centered (maybe slightly off, but nothing like today's junk). They're built using a cast aluminum blade housing with nylon gears. These are an auto stop blade design to. You'll feel the blade stop cutting a second or two after the auto stop light comes on. These also have a large shavings cup which is nice. I don't believe these where meant for heavy use but maybe moderate use. But anyways if you want a good quality sharpener for a good price buy one of these KP-33 sharpeners. I prefer the ones with a plastic base since they're slightly newer. One issue is that you're buying a 40 year old appliance so do make sure the cord is in good condition and make sure the unit hasn't been stored in basement or someplace damp (you'll know the smell) this can possibly cause a fire hazard if the unit has any corrosion inside it. If you're handy these are serviceable but if not then hunt around for one in good condition, there's plenty to go around as I believe the KP-33 was manly bought for office buildings which is why there's so many out there.Read full review

I think the vintage Panasonic Electric Pencil Sharpener KP-33 is a well-made product and I'm sorry that there are fewer such products made these days. I bought a new electric pencil sharpener and it was junk. So I researched, and then bought this vintage treasure.

In the '90s I purchased a Panasonic KP-110. It lasted through my twin boys. Second marriage, two more kids, destroyed. I was hart broken. I bought all sorts of other kinds; None worked, all vibrated to no end. I'm a charcoal artist and need extra sharp points. I found a used 110 and bought it. The KP-33 is a step up from the 110. The little light coming on when the pencil is sharp is cute. Like the 110, the 33 gives a long lead. I sometimes use a hand held sharpener for an exact point. One bad thing, the charcoal is fragile and breaks in the machine but is easy to remove. Easier than the 110.

It does the job, but it's not an even shaving all the way around the lead point, no matter if I hold the pencil steady or allow it to spin around as it is being sharpened. Holding it steady let me see which side was not evenly shaving & turning the pencil the opposite way did not seem to correct it, which is odd. It's great to have the light come on to tell me that it is at a sharp point, and it is!

An oldie but goodie! This pencil sharpener is FANTASTIC!! I am a teacher and have LOTS of pencils to sharpen every day. The light helps the students know when the pencil is sharp. I have one at home as well. The pencils are SUPER sharp. Highly recommend this pencil sharpener.
