- You are offerding on aVery Nicepiece ofWORLD WAR IIMEMORABILIA!
- This is an\'ADDRESSOGRAPH MODEL 70 DOG TAG IMPRINTER!\'
- This device was designed to make an imprint of a Dog Tag; Medical personal would transfer the information from the Dog Tag onto various medical documents.
- This device does not make embossed Dog Tags.
- This device just transferred the information from the existing Dog Tag onto medical paperwork.
- You can liken the function of the Addressograph Model 70 to the old style credit card machines.
- The old credit card machines would just transfer the information from your embossed credit card onto the paper showing several pictures; This is so you might get a better view;Please incorporate, consider,& use the pictures as an integral part of the description; They should be of assistance regarding the Quality & Condition.
- MEASUREMENTS:The background is divided into 1\" Squares; That should help you to assess the dimensions; This measures about6 1/2\"from the front end to the back end; About9\"diagonally from the front tip to the bottom of the handle.
- WEIGHT:This weighs about1 Pound 14Ounces.
- COLOR:This is the traditionalOLIVE DRABcolor.
- TEXT:
- TAG ON LEFT SIDE -METAL PLATE (You can see this in the picture):Model 70; Serial No. 72666;Addressograph Multigraph Corporation; Cleveland Ohio; Made in USA; Pat. No. 2116235 and others.
- ON TOP:Med. Dept. U. S Army.
NOTE:...The directions on Page 2 states, \'A safety latch locks the imprinting mechanism when the Addressograph is not in use. To release the safety latch a tag must be properly and\'FULLY\'inserted into the Addressograph between the plate guides.
ATTENTION:This Addressograph\'DOES HAVE\'that locking latch. I have had several of these (About 2 Dozen) over the years. I\'ve only one other that had the locking latch.- SCREW TABS:There are5Screw Knobs...1 Single & 2 Sets of 2.
- 1.Screw Knob on the side, in front of the metal ID plate;
- This adjusts The Bed / Platenbelow the Dog Tag Plate Guides;
- This has 3 numbers, 2, 3, 5;
- Just line up the number with the tab located between the knob and info pate;
- #2 (Narrow)will allow you to just print the top 2 lines of Dog Tag information;
- #3 (Wide)will allow you to just print the bottom 3 lines of Dog Tag information;
- #5 Allows you to print all 5 lines of Dog Tag information, (You can see the 3 adjustment positions in the picture).
- See Pictures: 7, 8 & 9
- 2.There are2more Screw Knobs near the top, behind the Ink Rollers, (Ink Winding Knobs); These are used to wind / turn the ink ribbon to a new position; (You can see these in picture #7);
- 3.There are2Spring Slotted Screws, (Platen Holding Screws)on the bottom; These for removing the bed plates.
- 1.Screw Knob on the side, in front of the metal ID plate;
- PULL TAB:There is small knob on the top, (Lock Pin For Ribbon Guard); This pulls up and the protective metal housing (Ribbon Guard)around the Ink Ribbon slides off; This will give you access to the Inked Ribbon.
- CONDITION - PAINT:The entire Addressograph has retained just about 99% of the original paint; (Look at the pictures and make your own assessment as to the percentage).
- INKED RIBBON:This is under the protective metal housing; The Ribbon looks to be Full& Complete; The ribbon is of courseDried Out, or is that Dried Up; The ribbon does respond to the winding knobs.
- CARRYING LOOP:There is a Metal Loop at the rear of the unit; I guess this is so the Medic could have it hanging from their belt; The Serial Number is just below this loop, when hanging down.
- BOOKLET ~ COPY OF THE ORIGINAL:I will include a copy (You will receive aCOPY...NOT the Original) of the operating 4 page booklet; Instruction of the Operation and Maintenance of Model 70 Addressograph, (You can see this in the picture).
- When was the last time you saw one of these?When do you think you\'ll see another?
- STORY~ HISTORY (This is 100% True...OR 100% False...OR Somewhere in between):The only function of this device was to transfer information from the embossed Dog Tag onto the proper military documents; This could not emboss or deboss Dog Tags; There was only arubber pad and a inked ribbon so that the imprinted information could be transferred to paperwork; This device was carried in the field by the medical corps; The Germans thought they looked like pistols; This caused the Germans to shoot at the unarmed medics; This device was heavy and not all that practical in the field.
- THE NOTCHED DOG TAG:The very controversial and arguably one of the issues for discussion;\"THE NOTCH.\"
- Well according to the Addressograph company,The NOTCH had only one purpose:That was to align the dog Tag in the proper position in the machine. This was a Locating Notch for proper alignment.
- TEST:I have a\'NOTCHED DOG TAG\';I placed it in the Addressograph; There is a small protruding metal nipple or tab toward the rear of where the Dog Tag would slide; The tab lines up perfectly with the notch in the dog tag.
- Blank Dog Tag Included
- So, there you have it!
- CONDITION:This looks to be in \'VERY GOOD\' condition;
- It does look like it\'s been through a WAR...OH YEAH...It HAS!
