This typewriter has been in my family since new. It belonged to my Auntie Ann who used it starting in the 1930\'s. It works fine mechanically. The carriage moves along and 42 keys work perfectly- only 2 (J & Q) keys stick \"up.\" A simple adjustment should fix this. Overall, my Auntie Ann\'s typewriter is in fair shape. It needs a ribbon, but looks to be complete but has no other obvious missing parts. The carriage return is rusted where your fingers contact it. Comes with the matching case, which appears to be in rough shape with a missing handle. Both the hinges and the latch work.
I gleaned the following information on this Royal Signet from another seller who recently sold a similar Royal Signet:
Information on these (Royal Signets) is a little scarce, but from a few sites shows that this model dates back to Depression era in the United States. In order to make an affordable typewriter during the money crunch, Royal released this as a capitals and numbers only typewriter. By doing this, they were able to use less hammers and also make a less complicated machine. The unintended effect was it seems to have undercut the repair and rental business, which is more profitable than selling cheaper new models. They only seem to have made this model for 1 or 2 years (Sept 1932 to Sept 1933), so it would seem to be very collectible due to the short production run and unique caps only type.
