For your consideration we offer a vintage hand painted Japanese porcelain melon jar. Dating to the mid-20th century, the jar is artistically created to display two identical panels on opposite sides and are separated by a black ground. The panels depict three Geisha in preparation for their afternoon. The entire jar is lavished with scrollwork and heavy gilt enhancements. An impressive and substantial piece, the jar stands approximately 12" from the base to the finial resting on the lid, and measures 8" in diameter at it's widest. In beautiful vintage condition, there are no chips, cracks, prior repairs, or other compromising imperfections. A hallmark is found on the base. Wear is appropriate for age and history of use so please review the photos as they are a descriptive part of the listing. An elegant and unique Japanese porcelain of the 1960s who's artistry, style, and craftsmanship has stood the test of time.
