Vintage used Babylon NY Black Cairns & Bros. 900 Fireman\'s Helmet w/ Leather Badge.

In 1670 the site of present day Babylon NY was purchased from the indigenous people. At that time the area was known as Sumpwam\'s Neck.

The Sumpwams Hose Company No. 2 was organized November 1895. The origin of its name cannot be clearly established, but as this hose company was formed to provide a more prompt response to the so-called “Downtown Area,” it could very well have taken its name from the Sumpwams Creek, which borders the East end of the Village.

The era of this helmet is unclear but it has a beautiful vintage leather patch and that wonderful finial. It is a piece that displays well and will be a wonderful addition to the collection of a historian or fire fighting enthusiast.

See photos for condition. No visible labels with a brand name but it appears there was a label on the inside top of the dome. This is consistent with a Cairns helmet.
