Disney character watch history began in 1933, when the first Mickey Mouse watch was manufactured, that is commonly considered by most people to be the first comic character wristwatch. Timex (first named Ingersoll and then U.S. Time) had the license to manufacture Disney watches from 1933 up until 1968 and from 1968 to 1972, several companies were licensed to produce Mickey Mouse watches, many of which were sold exclusively in Disneyland. In 1972 the lucrative Disney contract was acquired by Elgin National Industries, Inc, on January 1, 1972. Bradley Time Division of Elgin National Industries produced most of the Disney character watches for the next thirteen years. Therefore, Disney Bradley watches were produced between 1972 and 1985.

In the 1960's and 70's Timex continued to produce variations on the Mickey Mouse wristwatch with imported movements including electric versions, none of them, this UNIQUE timepiece: a vintage Timex Electric Mickey Mouse wristwatch dated from 1971. It has a electromechanically controlled balance motor, caliber Timex M40, 3 jewels, sweep second movement and hack feature.

This watch is a perfect addition to any Disney collection. The perfect white dial depicts the Classic image of Mickey Mouse with animated hands. It has bold printed Arabic Numerals and minute marks. Also, the dial is signed "Electric".

It is a 35.5mm round/oval case and lug design; stainless steel case back. The watch is coming with a one-piece strap.

After +50 years, this watch is in lovely condition.

Secondhand HorologyTHERE IS A LOT TO INFORM YOU ON THIS VERY VERY RARE WALT DISNEY MICKEY WATCH, I WILL GIVE YOU NOTHING BUT THE FACTS AND WHAT I WAS TOLD BY MY GO TO JEWELER IN MY CITY. IT MAY BE A BIT LONG WINDED BUT I WILL ONLY GIVE EXACTLY WHAT I KNOW AND HEARD. I PURCHASED THIS WATCH NOT SO LONG AGO IT IS IN THE ORIGINAL BOX HAS THE ORIGINAL BAND ,ALSO ALL OF THE PAPERWORK THAT CAME WITH THE WATCH WHEN IT WAS PURCHASED SOMETIME IN THE 1970s, I BELIEVE THAT THE CASE IS BAKELITE BUT I AM NOT SURE. THAT WAS WHAT WAS USED BACK IN THAT TIME. SO AGAIN NOT SURE , IF I HAVE IT TESTED I WILL GIVE THE ANSWER HERE. THE BOX IS IN VERY GOOD SHAPE NO CRACKS BREAKS OR ANYTHING NOTE WORTHY.AGAIN HAS ALL THE PAPERWORK WITH IT, THE PAPERWORK ALONE IS SO RARE YOU JUST WILL NOT FIND IT ANYWHERE. THE WATCH, THE WATCH IS IN GOOD TO VERY GOOD, PERSONAL OPINION.IT HAS SOME LIGHT FLEA BITES ON THE CRYSTAL NO CRACKS OR BREAKS . I TOOK THE WATCH TO MY JEWELER, FOR A LOOK AND A BATTERY, THE WATCH IS BOTH BATTERY AND MECHANICAL.THAT'S WHERE THE ELECTRIC COMES IN. THE WATCH TAKES A SPECIAL BATTERY THAT HE DID NOT HAVE , HE DID HAVE ONE THAT WAS CLOSE ENOUGH TO SEE IF THE WATCH TICKED, IT DID I WATCHED THE ARM TICK WITH MY EYES. BUT THAT BATTERY WOULD NOT BE SUITABLE FOR THE WATCH. ONE CAN BE ORDERED IF YOU CAN FIND ONE. HE SAID THERE ARE ONLY ABOUT 20 WATCH-SMITHS IN THE USA THAT WORK ON THIS TYPE OF WATCH, WHEN IT NEEDS SERVICED. HE HIGHLY SUGGESTED IT BEING LOOKED AT BY ONE OF THESE WATCH-SMITHS. IT NEEDS TO BE DISASSEMBLED AND CLEANED AND OILED AND SO ON. EVERYTHING THAT IS SHOWN IN THE PHOTOS IS EXACTLY HOW IT WAS WHEN I BOUGHT IT. SO, AS OF NOW THE WATCH NEEDS A BATTERY,AND SERVICED IF YOU WANT A RUNNING 1971 DISNEY RARE WATCH WITH ALL THAT CAME WITH IT. DOING MY RESEARCH THE WATCH IF IT WERE IN WORKING ORDER WITH ALL THE PAPERS IT CAME IN AND THE BOX, STRAP AND SO ON WOULD BE AROUND $1,000.
