Flaming Dart I encompassed a series of retaliatory sorties launched on February 7, 1965, targeting North Vietnamese army bases near Đồng Hới, with a second wave aimed at Viet Cong logistics and communications near the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ). In reaction to Flaming Dart I, the Viet Cong attacked a hotel billeting U.S. personnel. The U.S. responded with the Flaming Dart II air strikes, launched from three aircraft carriers: U.S.S. Background:

In February 1965 U.S. President Lyndon B.
