You are buyingasubdued U.S. Air Force patch(measures 3.25\" tall by 2.75\" wide) in excellent condition from the56th Training Squadron \"Fighter Academics,\" 56th Operations Group, 56th Fighter Wing, Luke Air Force Base, Arizona. 56thTraining Squadron -Fighter Academics\"The 56thTraining Squadron was initially activated as the 56th Pursuit Squadron in 1940. It was re-designated the 56th Fighter Interceptor Squadron and provided air defense for the West Coast and Alaska from 1941 through 1942 flying P-39 aircraft. The unit received the distinguished unit citation for its service in Alaska.

In 1943, the squadron was transferred to Bartow Army Air Field, FL, and conducted replacement training for P-51s, F-86s and F-104s from 1952 to 1960 when it was again deactivated.

In 1979, the squadron was reactivated as the 56th Tactical Training Squadron and assigned to the 56th Tactical Training Wing at MacDill AFB, FL.

In 1991, the squadron was re-designated as the 56th Training Squadron. The 56th Training Squadron was deactivated at MacDill AFB and reactivated at Luke AFB, AZ, on 1 April 1994. F-15 academics were taught in the squadron from 1 April 1994 to 31 March 1995 when the F-15s left Luke.

The 56th Training Squadron now provides academic and ground based instruction to support training the world\'s finest F-16 pilots. The 56th TRS trains almost one-half of all the Air Force\'s new fighter pilots each year. It conducts F-16 academic and device training in accordance with major command formal syllabi including initial instruction, transition courses, senior officer courses, Thunderbird/aggressor pilot instruction, forward air control, night systems and Block 50 specialized conversion courses. The 56th TRS also provides academic, simulator and live mission training for more than 75 upgrading weapons directors annually. All 56th TRS training is conducted across six facilities on Luke and the Papago Park military reservation in central Phoenix. This squadron provides Air Force acceptance and quality control of courseware and manages all international military student affairs and aircrew training devices for the 56th FW.\"
