Additional information:

Working the NightShift – Guy Bordelon became the only Navy ace in Korea flying his F4U-SNnight fighter. He is also the lastCorsair ace and the last American to become an ace in a prop-drivenaircraft. In Stan’s painting, Guyreturns to the USS Princeton (CV-37) at daybreak following a late eveningmission.

Cdr. Guy Bordelon, Jr USN (Feb 1, 1922 – Dec 19, 2002)joined the Navy during WWII. In 1952-3,Bordelon flew night fighter Corsairs off the Princeton. The 5thAir Force asked the Navy’s assistance at fending off “Bed Check Charlie”attacks by Korean prop aircraft.Credited with 5 victories, Bordelon was the only official Navy ace inKorea. He retired from the Navy in 1969.

Too Little Too Late– The Me-262 jet-powered fighter was also a significant technologicaladvance. This fighter was fast and couldoutrun Allied fighters. The 262 was vulnerable during landing, and otherfighters were required to protect the 262s during landing. Unfortunately from the German perspective, the Me-262 arrived on the scene too late, and too few in numbers to impact theoutcome of the war. In Stan’s dramaticpainting an Me-262 attacks a late model B-24 bomber in 1945.
