THE PHANTOM (QUINTESSENCE #1) 1973 FANZINE REPRINTS OF 1942 STRIPS RARE:
$60.00
This week I\'m offering a variety of collectibles, including trading cards as well as comics. In the late Sixties, interest began to grow in the history of American syndicated SF and fantasy comic strips. Fanzines took up the job of reprinting some of the best old strips. One of these was \"The Phantom,\' the classic action adventure strip written by Lee Falk and illustrated by Wilson McCoy. Created in 1936 and predating Superman by several years, the character of the Phantom can be said to have been the first superhero! Here I have a copy of Quintessence #1 from 1973, dedicated to The Phantom. This book collects a complete Phantom adventure from 1942, as drawn by Wilson McCoy (note that the cover credits Ray Moore, the original Phantom artist. This is incorrect, as McCoy took over the strip when Moore was drafted in 1941). The magazine reprints strips from September 1942 to January 1943. The book is in very nice condition with no major flaws - see scans for condition. This would be a terrific addition to any collection!Shipping will be combined for multiple purchases.
