Ancient and RARE Syro-Hittite Idol Head and armsClay Fragment 1st to 2nd Millennium BC Ancient Near East. This is likely the fragment of a head of a female figure, likely an idol, as these were common use in the Syro-Hittite Iron age period. The pinched face, with large bulbous eyes are typical, and large beak like nose, with the arms resting against the chest.The states called Neo-Hittite, Syro-Hittite (in older literature), or Luwian-Aramean (in modern scholarly works) were Luwian and Aramean regional polities of the Iron Age, situated in southeastern parts of modern Turkey and northwestern parts of modern Syria, known in ancient times as lands of Hatti and Aram. They arose following the collapse of the Hittite New Kingdom in the 12th century BCE, and lasted until they were subdued by the Assyrian Empire in the 8th century BCE. Source: Wikipedia, 2024
