This model includes a base which has been painted to give a burled wood finish. It\'s a slightly more sophisticated version. This solar system model has smaller planets revolving at a faster speed than the others so the appearance is enhanced. Notwo are alike - each is hand-painted and glazed so that the planets look either bakelite or wood and some actually give the appearance of burled wood. A brilliant blue constellation cap is included.About 9.5\" tall and arm extends about 18.5 from the center of the base, so significant in size. Weight is about 5 lbs.
As an antique dealer I have searched for an antique orrery which I could afford for 35 years. This is a new educational item which has been turned into a fantasy item. This is not a true to life scientific apparatus (otherwise some planets would be out in my backyard instead of my library.) The planets do not spin individually but again on this particular model the smaller closer planets spin around the sun faster than the other four. This item started out as new in box. It runs on batteries (not included.) PLEASE ask all questions prior to offerding.
