Rare IDENTIFIED, MOSTLY FULL Antique Leather Padded Carte de Visite Photo Album, Containing 65%+ Of Original Owner's Antebellum/Civil War/Victorian Pictures!!!

DESCRIPTION: This is a nice example of a classic original Antebellum/Civil War/Victorian period Carte de Visite photo album. Used to hold carte de visite size photos and tintypes, the most popular photo medium of that day. Has a nice front manufacturer's page as well as an index page.

THIS ONE IS EXTREMELY SPECIAL AS IT STILL CONTAINS MOST OF ITS ORIGINAL PERIOD CdVs & many tintypes!!!Also, EXTREMELY UNUSUAL AND RARE IN THAT IT CONTAINS MANY CHILDREN, PAIRS OF MARRIED FOLKS/COUPLES, AND WOMEN.

MOST RARE IS THAT IT IS NAMED ON THE FRONT WITH THE OWNER'S NAME, ELIJAH WEAVER. I have never seen such identification before.

This is a nicealbum, containing25 pages, with room for 2 standard size carte de visite photos per page......for a totol capacity of 50 CdeV's. THIS ALBUM IS ABOUT 70% COMPLETE, WHICH IS ALMOST UNHEARD OF. The photos are mostly CdeV's, with a number of CdV size tintypes. I can of course not be sure if all the photos that were originally in it are there, but certainly many and conceivably all.

I have not disturbed any of the pictures in it, but I would assume that some are identified in some way on the back. There are almost always some that are. I am able to see the photographer's backmarks on several pictures where it was showing. One was from Bristol, Pa, and the other 3 were from Philadelphia. There is therefore a good chance that the owner, Mr. Weaver, and his relatives and friends, were from the Philadelphia areas.

The album has aNICE BROWN LEATHER EMBOSSED PATTERN ON THE FRONT & BACK, gold trimmed pages, and a fancy, intact perfectly working original brass hinge (One or more of these hinges is often missing, but THE ONE ON THIS ALBUM IS PERFECT). The album binding is in good condition, and the rest is in excellent condition overall, including covers and pages. It also STILL HAS ALL 8 OF THE ORIGINAL WHITE TABLE BUMPERS, again, often missing.

Very nice and scarce, to find a Civil War period album with the owner's name on it, and still containing most of the original owner's photos !!!! They also could be removed if desired to use it to hold YOUR collection of original CdVs.

Measures 4 1/4" x 5 1/4" x 2 1/4" thick.
