Here is an original 11th Airborne Air Assault Badge. These are HARD to find. Info and history as follows:

This predates the Air Assault badge with the chopper on it. These were only issued to the 11th Airborne Troopers who assembled, trained, and perfected the new helicopter based assault tactics in 1965. This example features a shield, wings, and lightning bolt crossing a rifle. The badge is clutchback, as is should be, and is stamped sterling on the reverse.

An original, and the earliest Air Assault Badge. The 11th Airborne Division was a United States Army airborne formation, first activated on 25 February 1943, during World War II. The badge was first awarded in the early 1960s by troops of the 11th Airborne Air Assault Wing who qualified for it by making three helicopter rappels from 60 feet and three from 120 feet. On 30 June 1965 the colors of the 11th Air Assault Division were inactivated and its assets merged with the 2nd Infantry Division to become the 1st Cavalry Division Air-mobile and sent to Vietnam in 1965.
