Hardbound invery goodcondition, 226 pages includes CONTENTS, an INTRODUCTION and PUBLISHER ADS, measures approximately 4 ¼" x 6", no dust jacket. The boards have blind stamped decorations to all external surfaces and gilt page edges all around with gilt titles and decorations on the spine.. There is slight fading and some droplet type blemishes mostly to the rear board, a small chip to the upper edge of the spine. Edge wear is very modest, free of chipping.. Overall an attractive, solid, little book that does not appear to have had any alterations. It has been fitted with an Archival Quality clear Mylar dust jacket to better protect it in the future. The interior reveals firm contents to be clean, firmly bound with no loose or misaligned pages. There is an Ex Libris attached to the front paste down along with a discard stamp from a seminary library. The pages are age toned with scattered foxing but quite legible.
This book is undated in-so-far as a specific copyright or publisher date although a date does appear at the end of the Introduction, <I>"Lahainaluna, Feb. 17, 1844. The prelim descriptions and visual assessment are completely consistent with David W. Forbes description of the THOUGHTS ON MISSIONS published about 1845.

The Dibbles were among the Fourth Company of missionaries to sail from Massachusetts, arriving in Hawaii in 1831. Rev. Dibble was first stationed in Hilo then Lahainaluna on Maui in 1834. Following the passing of his wife and his own subsequent ill health, he and his children went back to New England. He remarried in 1839 and returned with his 2nd wife to his post at Lahainaluna till around 1840.
THOUGHTS ON MISSIONS although not dated is felt to have been printed around 1845, or approximately 175 years ago. For informational purposes, it has been reprinted in recent years as original editions such as this are truly rare. This copy, still in very pleasing, very legible condition, completely original with no repairs noted would be a prize addition to a Hawaiiana or Pacific collection.
