This beautiful and Unique Sculpture (unsigned) appears to be 19th century Egyptian Revival. Herm form relic style (as indicated by the obverse pillar) of a young Seti I. It stands 8 inches (19cm) tall and weighs ~20 pounds (9.5kg). (Provenance to be provided with sale). It comes from the estate of a local Atherton Doctor who traveled the world. The piece was acquired by him in Egypt.
The craftsmanship is remarkable. The finish is polished smooth and symmetricalin every aspect.
It has a lead base (used to fill the broken neck line so it sits flat as shown).The cartouche on the obverse is for Seti I and the conspicuous similarities (errors) between it and a relief found in the Isis Shrine East end of the north hall at Abydos (also shown in a reference from Vol. 3 \"Sethos\" Univ. of Chicago 1938) provide a clue to its origins. It is believed that the artist used this relief depiction to create the work.
