For sale is an Otodustooth. The Otodus was a larger, pre-historicancestor to the Great White Shark which is estimated to have been between 30feet – 40 feet long. This shark isbelieved to have existed during the Paleocene and Miocene eras. This tooth originates from Morocco.

· The tooth itself measures about 1-1.5 inches long (2.54cm to 4cm) long and may differ slightly fromwhat is pictured in the photos.

· Thelength of the necklace is about 17 inches with a 2 inches extension (43 cm + 5cm ) , and is adjustable.

“Since the skeletons of sharks are composed ofbiodegradable cartilage rather than longer-lasting bone, often times the onlyfossil evidence of prehistoric species consists of teeth (sharks grow and shedthousands of teeth during their lifetimes, which is why they're so abundant inthe fossil record). Its fossilized teeth aside, Ototodus' greatestclaim to fame is that it seems to have been directly ancestral to Megalodon,the 50-foot-long, 50-ton predatory behemoth that ruled the world's oceans rightuntil the cusp of the modern era. (This is not to diminish Otodus' own place inthe record books; this prehistoric shark was at least one and one-half times asbig as the biggest Great White Sharks alive today.) Paleontologists haveestablished this evolutionary link by examining the similarities between thesetwo sharks' teeth; specifically, the teeth of Otodus show early hints of theflesh-ripping serrations that would later characterize the teeth of Megalodon.”
