NWA 10690 is a NWA 7030 pairing

NWA 7030/10690 is a olivine-rich, orthopyroxene and clinopyroxene, totaly recrystallized meteorite(no chondrules or chondrules relict) with a very (very) unusual interstitial potassium feldspar, a mineral called sanidine (accesory phases taenite, somechromite and troilite). The overall texture is that of a fine grained igneous cumulate rock (poikiloblastic texture).

Altough NWA 7030/10690 was shown to have affinities to the LL-chondrite group (mainly oxygen isotopes), it has many anomalous features that make it unique, and therefore, could be considered as ungouped. The K-Ar age was determined, and the result indicate the occurence of two separate impact heating/degassing event that have distorbed this isotopic chronometer : one at ~4.12Ga and the other at ~2.39Ga (Fernandes et al., 2014)

Northwest Africa 10690(NWA 10690)

(Northwest Africa)

Purchased: 2016 Mar

Classification: Ordinary chondrite (LL7)

History: Purchased by Fabien Kuntz in March 2016 from a dealer in Ouarzazate, Morocco.

Petrography: (A. Irving and S. Kuehner, UWS) Very fresh specimen with poikiloblastic texture and no evidence of relict chondrule structures. Minerals are olivine, orthopyroxene, clinopyroxene, sodic plagioclase, potassium feldspar, taenite, chromite, troilite and rare chlorapatite. Some feldspar consists of perthitic intergrowths of potassic and sodic phases.

Geochemistry: Olivine (Fa29.9-30.0, N = 3), orthopyroxene (Fs23.4-23.5Wo3.7-3.6, N = 3), clinopyroxene (Fs10.3-12.1Wo42.5-38.9, N = 2), plagioclase (An6.4-7.2Or3.2-3.5, N = 2), potassium feldspar (Or83.6-87.3An6.1-5.7, N = 2).

Classification: Ordinary chondrite (LL7, K-feldspar-bearing).

Specimens: 20.45 g including one polished thin section at PSF; remainder with untz.
