4X4X22mm LYSO Crystalwith all sidesPolished and ready to use. LYSOis a Premium Scintillator Material with very goodenergy resolution and guaranteed to work for radiation detection when coupledto a PMT and built into a probe. LYSO is denser than BGO or GSO, with a specificdensity of 7.16 g/cm^3 that provides excellent stopping power for high energyphotons. Much greater density than that of NaI(Tl) and is non-hygroscopic andsafe to handle. Great for high-energy physics experiments. LYSO is very durable anddoes not break easily.These crystalstypicallysell new at a price of $50 each.

These are also great for use in calibration of a gamma spectroscopy system.LYSOcontains Lutetium Lu176 that is slightly radioactive itself, so you have a veryspecific background peaks in this material that make it very useful for calibration. When measuring low energy samples, thisbackground can be subtracted, but is not always necessary. Since the activity is very low, they are not recommended for use as a Geiger counter check source.

The demonstration pictures show peaks of several commonenergy sources without the background removed. The PMT used for the pictures isa Hamamatsu R9420 (available in another of my listings) using just a singlecrystal coupled with silicone to the center of the face and then wrapped withPTFE and black tape. Just a single crystal can be used to make a decentdetector capable of gamma spectrometry at an unbelievable price. TheMultichannelAnalyzer (MCA)software used is Theremino, and is generously providedfree of cost by the good folks at Theremino.com.
