Discovered in 1817, the register is carved on a gallery wall in raised relief, within the memorial temple of Seti I in the Valley of the Kings at Abydos. It represents a complete chronological list showing cartouches of most of the dynastic pharaohs of Egypt from the first, Narmer-Menes up to Seti I and Ramesses II, making 76 cartouches in all. Because history is written by the winners, heretics like Akhenaten, Hatshepsut and a couple of others were erased from history. The table is considered one of the most significant documents from the period. It confirms and completes other fragments and partial records. Well preserved in stone, it is the only complete surviving Egyptian document which backs up Manetho\'s official history from the 3rd century B.C.
