This is a wood-burning samovar produced by Ignaty Alexandrovich Dyakov in Tula sometime between 1897 and 1917. It bears the mark of the Society for Support and Development of Artisanal Manufacturing in the Tula Governorate as well as the Pre-Soviet coat of arms of the city of Tula.Included inside the barrel was paperwork from when the samovar was purchased for 65 rubles in Moscow in 1986 (not by me). Large stamp on one form translates to \"not authorized for export outside USSR\" (lol).Construction is nickel-plated brass. Handles and knobs are wood. The knobs on the lid and chimney cap are original, but the original brass screws have been replaced with Soviet-era steel bolts (pictured). Coating has worn down to the brass in multiple places. Stopcock is missing its wooden knob.Chimney has about 70 years of soot, and barrel has about 70 years of hard water deposits.THIS THING WAS USED! IT WAS SOMEBODY\'S SAMOVAR FOR MOST OF A CENTURY! THIS WAS NOT A MUSEUM PIECE! It is, however, in remarkably good shape for being 106-126 years old, and having lived through almost the entire Soviet era. This thing was built when Nicholas II was alive, and left Russia under Gorbachev, and for most of that time it was a practical appliance in someone\'s (or several someones) home.
