This sale is for Max & Moritz anadorable collectible item from Hummel featuring a pair of young boys standingtogether with the larger boy’s arm around that of the younger boy. They are dressed in complimentary outfitswith bright neck ties and alternating blue/brown jackets/plaid shorts/pants,etc. The Hummel measures a little over5” high x 3 wide x 2 ¼” deep. On the bottom is printed, Goebel, W Germany. Thereare also embossed numbers in the porcelain – one is partly beneath the purchaselabel (what is showing is 23, so assume it is 123), there is a small 62 and 1939. Hummelfigurines (also known as M.I. Hummelfigurines or Hummels) are a series ofporcelainfigurinesbased on the drawings of Sister Maria Innocentia Hummel, O.S.F. The sketch art of Sister Maria InnocentiaHummel began to appear in the 1930s in Germany and Switzerland, mostly pastoraldrawings of children. Hummel\'s \"art cards\" became popular throughout Germany,catching the eye of Franz Goebel, porcelain maker and head of W. GoebelPorzellanfabrik. Goebel acquired rights to turn Hummel\'s drawing intofigurines, producing the first line in 1935. Soldiers from WWII would sendthese home as gifts and Americans traveling to Europewould purchase them as souvenirs.
