Upon close examination of a high resolution scan you can see the man on the right is being help up by a stand. I think they both are, but not 100% on the man on the left - I am no expert in this medium. Were there killed in a fight, did they die in a battle, were they victims of illness, family, brothers, etc? The possibilities are endless.
