New 4X4X25mm GSO (Ce) Crystal Pixel, orGadolinium Silicate, Gd2SiO5(Ce), also known as GSO. Each pixel has one small face smooth polished, and the sides and other face are chemically etched with a texture to provide best internal reflection, especially when wrapped in a reflective material like PTFE Tape. New unused crystals.
GSOis a Premium Scintillator Material and guaranteed to work for radiation detection when coupledto a PMT and built into a probe. GSO is dense, with a specificdensity of 6.71 g/cm^3 that provides excellent stopping power for high energyphotons. Much greater density than that of NaI(Tl) and is non-hygroscopic andsafe to handle. Great for high-energy physics experiments. GSO is very durable anddoes not break easily.These crystalstypicallysell new at a price of $50 each.

The PMT used for the pictures isa Hamamatsu R647 using just a singlecrystal coupled with silicone to the center of the face and then wrapped withPTFE and black shrink-wrap. Just a single crystal can be used to make a decentdetector capable of gamma spectrometry at an unbelievable price. TheMultichannelAnalyzer (MCA)software used is Theremino, and is generously providedfree of cost by the good folks at Theremino.com.
