It took him a solid 25 years, but DC\'s Emerald Archer, Oliver Queen the GREEN ARROW, finally scored his very own FIRST SOLO SERIES in 1983, the tail end of comics\' Bronze Age. Knowing Ollie, he probably didn\'t really want to have his own series, and likely even spoke out against it. He\'s never been the agreeable type, and despite his wealth, he never sided with the privileged. He preferred the underdog, and in a world of incredible individuals with superhuman skills, he\'s always seen himself as being just the \"little guy.\"
Green Arrow first appeared in Adventure Comics #250 (Vol 1, 1958), in a co-feature that introduced both he and SPEEDY to the DCU. Nevertheless, the hero\'s big break came years later, when his name was added to the \"marquee\" in Green Lantern / Green Arrow #76 (1970), the issue which kicked off Arrow\'s \"Hard-Traveling Heroes\" era in which he and HAL JORDAN traveled the country, encountering injustices of all kinds and delivering commentary that went beyond the typical comic book and delved into more adult and socio-political themes.
With regular appearances on The CW\'s Smallville and then his own series Arrow on the same network, Green Arrow has become one of the most recognizable of DC\'s superheroes to mainstream audiences. But The CW Network shows have always cast the hero as a younger character, and not the opinionated middle-age Justice Leaguer most often portrayed in DC\'s comics or in their animated series like Justice League Unlimited and even Super Friends.
With the dawn of the new cinematic DC Universe having begun, James Gunn has announced that Green Arrow will be joining the DCU sooner than later -- specifically, in the 2025 second season of Peacemaker.Given the established parameters of the HBOmax series, it seems likely that Gunn\'s Green Arrow will be introduced more comic-accurately than his live-action predecessors, though to what extent remains unknown. Will he be as old as HAL JORDAN will be in the upcoming Lanterns series, or will he fall someplace in between, a viable friend of Hal but also capable of picking up the \"Green Lantern / Green Arrow\" dynamic with the much younger JOHN STEWART?
