This is GEMMY SEMI-TRANSLUCENT yellow-orangePEROVSKITE CRYSTALS WITHBLACK GARNET CRYSTALS (MELANITE, A VARIETY OF ANDRADITE GARNET)from "RED HEAD LEASE" IN SAN BENITO COUNTY, CALIFORNIA.
This has one prominent and well-formed PEROVSKITE crystal and 4 or 5 other smaller ones. This has lots of tiny melanite garnet crystals in several different areas. This has tiny vugs or openings in the matrix and in these protected areas are acicular needle-like straws of an unidentified mineral (it may be nepheline but that's a wild guess). This is from the estate colllection (Circa 1990's) of Drexel Pitts, of Lizella, Georgia and includes an old David Shannon label as well as my own label.
This is a micro-mineral andYou'll need a loupe to see the perovskite crystal as well as it is shown in these enlarged photos. The black garnet crystals are more noticeable despite being much smaller than the perovskite because they are bright and highly reflective garnet crystals. While this is a tiny example of perovskite it's a really good one. It has a great price and after looking at the other perovskite currently listed at the time that this listing was posted it seems to be a great value. Please read about the size below:
Approximate size of crystal specimen:1 1/2" wideX 1 3/8" deepX 1 1/4" tallor in metric: 3.8 X 3.5 X 3.0 CM. The metric measurement is more precise.This weighs 37 grams / 1.30 OUNCES.
This is shown with enlarged images so please note:This is shown with large high-resolution images. The photos show the specimen as if you were examining it with a magnifying glass. Every good detail, and every bad detail, is shown in a blaze of glory or shame as the case may be.
Having said that, since the photos are highly enlarged you may see features or blemishes that will not be detectable or will not be as prominent to the naked eye.
Please note the size and be advised that the images appear larger than life on your screen. To be clear: this is shown with extreme magnification. To put it another way, (as ifthat wasn't clear enough?) these are large pictures of a small crystal.
This specimen is priced commensurate with its rarity, locality and quality. I can't take less for it so please don't ask. I do have minerals for every budget so be sure to check out my other items.
