From 1989 to 1993, the New-York based independent publisherEvolutionComicsbrought readers fantasy tales with authentic history, science fiction stories with real science, and female characters who were autonomous, rather than automatons.
They published two titles, each with two features;
Dangerous Times ran for six issues and carried "Vidorix the Druid" ,written by Celtic scholar and linguist Alexei Kondratiev, and illustrated by James Fletcher, Don Hudson, Jordan Raskin, and Sandu Florea. Our Druidic hero finds himself on a time-travelling odyssey through the ages.
Co-featured was "Beleagean Days", written by Margie Spears and illustrated by Vince Mielcarek, a spacefaring adventure in the tradition of classic Star Trek.
New Frontiers ran two issues and co-featured "Green Ghost and Lotus", by Tom & Mary Bierbaum and Mercy Van Vlack, a superhero series in which our ostensible hero is under the mentorship and guidance of his far more savvy 'sidekick', in a 'Remington Steele' scenario with 'Moonlighting'-style banter and romantic tension.
Co-featured was "Action Master", about a stuntman superhero written by Mike Forrester, and drawn by stuntman T.J. Glenn, a real-life 'Action Master'.
An attractive feature of both series are the high-profile cover artists; Mike Kaluta, Murphy Anderson, Marshall Rogers, George Perez, Walt Simonson, Javier Saltares, Curt Swan and Adam Hughes - an all-star roster of cover illustrators, and some of their less often seen work!
