Edison 2 Min. Black Wax Cylinder Records Lot #43:
$50.00
Lot #43 - Four 2 Minute Edison Black Wax cylinders. Here are the details:Record #9672 - Dixie Minstrels sung by Porter and Meeker - The recorded surface has surface mold, BUT, the good news is that it affects the 1st 3-7 seconds and the last 3-5 seconds with that classic "scratch" sound. The main portion of the recording is in good shape. What is really exciting is the box itself. It has the distributors tag on the box, specifically " Kramer's Music House". I love it when the address of the distributor exists, just to see if the location still exists and it does! Here's a picture of 544 Hamilton Street, Allentown Pa. today!
Just think! That shop was once a cylinder/phonograph shop for folks in Allentown Pa.120 years ago known as Kramer's Music House. Wow! Anyway, No scratches, chips, or cracks. Box and lid in good condition.
Record # 9064 - Talking and Singing: Louis and Lena at Luna Park sung by Miss Ada Jones and Lyn Spencer - Luna Park was an incredible amusement park in Coney Island, NY at the turn of the 20th century. More important is the incredible duet of Miss Jones and Mr. Spencer singing together on this touching recording. There's no mold on the recorded surface, however there are several chips, particularly at the beginning and near the end of the recording which disrupts the flow of imagination as they stroll through the rides at Luna Park, flirting with each other. Regardless, if you are an Ada Jones fan as I am, especially when she sang with Billy Murray, the blemishes are inconsequential compared to not hearing her sing at all. Box and lid in good condition.
Record # 8339 - Banjo: Dixie Medley played by Fred Van Epps - The Banjo, an original American musical instrument, was very popular from the late 1880's through the 1910's, and Freddie Van Epps and his brothers of The Van Epps Trio made the Banjo a centerpiece in early recorded sound. Some mold distortion at the beginning of the recording and end of the cylinder. Most of the recording sounds good. No chips or scratches. Box and lid in good condition.
Record # 1503 - Annie Laurie sung by Harry Macdonald -Early Edison recording with no song title etched on the top edge of the recording. Harry's voice is clear, albeit too loud for the early acoustical recording system of the day at some points. The recording plays well till about 3/4 of the way through, there are some chips on the recorded surface, but a Model H reproducer plough's through perfectly without any skips.
