Offered here is an Edison Automatic reproducer serial number 40871 that has been completely restored to like-new condition by Steve Medved, one of the finest in the world when it comes to restoration. Steve has completely restored this adding a new stylus and a new GLASS diaphragm. This may well be one of if not THE finest Automatic reproducer available anywhere. The serial number indicates this was originally produced in 1896 and was most likely fitted originally on an Edison two-clip, "lunch box" standard phonograph. I had this for my 1898 Two Clip standard and it plays beautifully and was original to the machine! These reproducers were specifically designed to play brown wax cylinders which are extremely fragile, however they can be safely used to play two minute black wax as well. This reproducer is absolutely ready to go. You may find similar reproducers for less money but too often they will then require a significant investment to fully restore them. That work has already been done with this one and with proper care this should last another 100 years with no problems. The serial number (40871) is considered relatively low as hundreds of thousands were produced and this is just below #41-thousand. This is why I believe this reproducer will end up in the hands of a collector who wants to match his/her early Standard with the reproducer that was originally intended for the phonograph.
