David Davidson "Regulating the Banjo Clock" Hand Colored Photo Nutting Apprentic For Sale
David Davidson "Regulating the Banjo Clock" Hand Colored Photo Nutting Apprentic:
David Davidson"Regulating the Banjo Clock" Hand ColoredPhotograph of Women regulating a clock. Nutting apprentice.
Wonderful example of David Davidson Hand Colored Photography. Signed and Titled in pencil, both of which are quite light. No rips or water stains. There are what I believe to be splotches of white paint, (perhaps a new colorist on duty that day?), on the lady sitting in the chair. Without taking the picture apart I can not confirm that. IT IS STILL A LOVELY PICTURE, BUT IS BEING SOLD WITH THAT UNDERSTANDING.
PLEASE NOTE THAT HAND COLORED PHOTOGRAPHS, SOME OF WHICH ARE OVER 100 YEARS OLD, MAY HAVE MINOR SPOTS OR FADING. I ASK THAT BUYERS LOOK CLOSELY AT PHOTOGRAPHS FOR CONDITION. I WILL ALWAYS NOTE RIPS, TEARS, FOXING OR WATER STAINS WHEN OBSERVED.
Davidson was an apprentice of the most well known of the early 20th century photographers Wallace Nutting - Famous for New England scenes. Davidson, like Nutting, was from Rhode Island. He was probably the second most prolific of the hand colored photographers selling their pictures in the first half of the 20th century.
