From the Certificate of Authenticity:“...Box Office Bunny”, the first Bugs Bunny animated theatrical short in over 26 years, was released in the United States on February 8, 1991 with the Warner Bros. feature film, “The Neverending Story II The Next Chapter.”This fully animated short was handcrafted entirely in the United States utilizing the artist of Warner Bros. Classic Animation. On the Certificate: Warner Bros I.D. Number 34669.
When a multi-screen cinema is erected over Bugs Bunny’s rabbit hole, Bugs Bunny pops up through the floor of the theater to investigate. Elmer Fudd, the over zealous usher, asks him to leave because he has no ticket and a chase ensues. This cel is from this scene as Daffy Duck uses his yellow library card to open the back door of the theater and sneak in to avoid paying for a movie ticket, only to be caught up in the chase also. In the end, (spoiler alert) our hero Bugs triumphs, and Daffy and Elmer are trapped onscreen in the thrasher film which is playing the theater."
Box Office Bunny theatrical short, directed by Darrell Van Citters and with production design by Michael Giamo, was released on 2/8/91. It was the first Warner Brothers Bugs Bunny theatrical release since 1964's False Hare. It was issued to commemorate Bugs' 50th anniversary.
A fantastic and beautiful setup for any collection from a key moment in WB Theatrical Animation History.
